We are proud to support New Zealand producers, growers, manufacturers and artisans wherever possible. Many of our key beneficial ingredients are grown and produced right here in New Zealand using natural and organic processes that support, maintain and respect New Zealand’s biodiversity and wildlife through sustainable, ethical, chemical-free and environmentally-friendly practices. Produced from the green waste of New Zealand native tōtara trees, our sustainably produced Certified Organic Bioactive Totarol Extract is a naturally occurring diterpenoid compound that develops in the heartwood of tōtara trees after 150 years of growth.
This antioxidant compound is 7x stronger than Vitamin E and protects the tree from bacterial attack, enabling tōtara trees to live for thousands of years and preventing the wood from rotting even after it has fallen – and it is these properties that makes it so incredibly protective, antimicrobial and rejuvenating for your skin, lips and body.
Only the fallen debris of tōtara trees is used in the making of Totarol Extract – no trees are ever cut down. The leftover by-product of Totarol Extract is used to fertilise nearby plant nurseries. For every full-sized tōtara tree used, 1000 more tōtara trees are planted.
We use NZ Beeswax in some of our Pure Creations products, for its protective, antibacterial, skin soothing and relaxation properties.
Our ethically-harvested, single-source beeswax comes directly from a certified organic mānuka honey producer in a remote part of New Zealand. The beeswax we use is a by-product of organic honey production, meaning only the excess beeswax on the outside of honey frames and beeswax that is filtered out of the honey itself is collected. No beeswax is taken from the hives themselves. It is important that the bees’ production wax is left untouched as it takes bees 7kg of honey to build 1kg of wax!
Once the excess beeswax is collected, it is manually filtered for impurities without the use of chemicals or solvents, and poured into blocks, resulting in unrefined, unbleached and untreated Certified Organic Beeswax in its most raw and pure form, offering maximum benefit for skin health, and giving our products a soft golden glow.
We use pure NZ Sea Salt that has been through minimal processing and therefore still retains its broad spectrum natural mineral profile. Collected from salt lakes located at the top of the South Island, the lakes are naturally evaporated by sun and wind, leaving the pure sea salt to be carefully gathered at the end of each summer, much like Celtic Sea Salt.
In the few products that we use alcohol, such as our Hand Sanitising Spray, only the best will do – and New Zealand has the finest on offer. We source a special undenatured, food grade alcohol crafted from pure glacial-born water. Flowing from the Southern Alps of the South Islands, this water is naturally filtered through deep underground alluvial rivers before being collected for the distillery process.
Being undenatured means our alcohol is made without chemicals, and instead distilled through natural fermentation, resulting in alcohol of an extremely high quality and purity, perfect for our pure creations which are formulated to be kind to sensitive skin.
IMPORTED INGREDIENTS
We support NZ businesses and economy by choosing our imported ingredients from reputable New Zealand distributors. We carefully research and select each of our imported ingredients for quality, purity and integrity.
Bentonite Clay is found in volcanic, sedimentary deposits formed thousands to millions of years ago. When magma was thrown up into the atmosphere, it cooled rapidly, becoming volcanic ash. The volcanic ash then fell, settled and accumulated in layers on these ancient seafloors, where it became compacted. Over time, the seawater seeped through the ash layers converting it into clay minerals. Today, from these aged sedimentary volcanic ash beds, Bentonite Clay is harvested from shallow pits on earth’s surface. Much like volcanic soil, bentonite clay can contain up to 75 naturally-occurring trace minerals including calcium, silica, magnesium, sodium, iron and potassium.
Our high-quality Bentonite Clay is the hero ingredient in our Teethpaste and Teethpowder, is an Australian Certified Organic Input and is compliant with Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ).
Our Activated Coconut Charcoal is 100% Activated Carbon, made from organic coconut shells that have been harvested in Sri Lanka, before being steam activated and carefully formulated into a superfine powder without the use of chemicals.
Our Certified Organic and FCC Certified Food Grade Activated Charcoal is a highly porous, powerful detoxifier that is able to adsorb toxins and impurities from the skin and body. We use small optimal amounts in our Teethpaste and Teethpowder to help balance the pH levels in the mouth, and remove staining to help brighten and whiten teeth.
Our beautiful Certified Organic Shea Butter comes from Northern Ghana. The shea nuts are wild-crafted from shea trees scattered throughout the fields and forests of organic-zoned areas in the savanna. A Certified Fair-Trade product, our shea butter is collected and processed using traditional methods, without the use of chemicals, by women co-operative groups.
Unlike refined shea butter, our pure and raw Unrefined Shea Butter maintains all its beneficial nutrients that help protect, heal and hydrate skin, making it suitable for all skin types. Our Unrefined Shea Butter also maintains a natural off-white colour and a light, pleasant aroma.
Deeply moisturising and rich in antioxidants that may help encourage skin tissue regeneration while nourishing dry/scaly skin, our Shea Butter is a beneficial core ingredient in our Balms, Lip Balms and Body Care Range.
Our Certified Organic Camellia Oil (camellia oleifera) is used in both our We Love Organics Swishing Oils and oil-based TeethDrops, and Pure Creations product ranges. Camellia has a long history of traditional use in both China and Japan. We treasure our Camellia Oleifera Oil for its high antioxidant content and incredible restorative properties for skin and oral tissues. Camellia Oil is non-comedogenic (meaning it doesn’t clog pores and is suitable for acne-prone/oily skin) and is similar to the natural oils our body produces. We use unrefined, cold-pressed camellia which is rich in Vitamin E and oleic acid for maximum rejuvenating benefits for teeth, gums and skin.
Other carrier oils we use in our formulas include certified organic, virgin and cold-pressed Coconut Oil, Golden Jojoba Oil, Avocado Oil, Sweet Almond Oil and more. We carefully source our carrier oils from a variety of reputable suppliers, looking for the highest purity. All of our oils are organically extracted (e.g. cold pressed) without the use of chemical or solvents.
We love essential oils, and respect them, using them carefully and thoughtfully in our creations. We take the time to find the absolute purest and highest quality oils available.
Not all essential oils are created equal, so we look for the highest grade, and only select oils that have been extracted via steam distillation, cold pressing, or centrifugal force, without the use of chemical solvents. Most of our essential oils are either certified organic, organically grown, or obtained from sustainably wildcrafted sources, and some are grown and produced right here in Aotearoa New Zealand.
We obtain the best quality organic herbs and spices available, including Ceylon (true) Cinnamon Bark and Clove Buds, which we infuse into our Swishing Oils and blend into our Teethpowder, and our Vanilla Pods which we use to make our own cold infused vanilla oil which you will find in our Organic Vanilla Bean Lip Balm.
