Ayurveda & Tongue Cleaning
Just like plaque can build up on teeth and gums, so too can bacteria and toxins build up in the tiny crevices of the tongue. Ayurveda recognises the tongue as intercommunicating between the mouth and digestive system, and advises keeping the tongue clean to ensure that this communication doesn’t get blocked. Physical results of blocking might include desensitized taste, keratin imbalance, or a decrease in the production of the correct enzymes in saliva to break down food. Tongue cleaning stimulates digestive fire (agni) and prevents halitosis (bad breath) by removing sulphuric compounds that get caught on the tongue fibres.
Directions
Wash before first use. Using both hands, hold the handles, and gently position cleaner as far back on the tongue as comfortable. Gently glide the cleaner over your tongue toward the opening of your mouth, carefully lifting unwanted matter, being careful not to press too hard. Rinse the tongue cleaner, dry or shake off the water, and then repeat the tongue cleaning process. Repeat several times. Once finished, rinse and dry tongue cleaner for next use.
