Organic Bentonite Clay
From $15.00
Our pure high-quality organic Bentonite Clay can also be found in our We Love Organics Teethpaste & Teethpowder.
Our silky-smooth Bentonite Clay actively draws toxins and impurities from the skin and body. Bentonite Clay has been used since ancient times to bathe, soothe and detoxify, and can also be used to help cleanse and regulate acne-prone and/or oily skin. It is also a natural and effective alternative to talcum powder.
Our Bentonite Clay has been gathered from natural deposits, and dried and milled without the use of chemicals.
We recommend using our Bentonite Clay with our non-reactive Bamboo Spoon.
Bentonite Clay is found in volcanic, sedimentary deposits formed thousands to millions of years ago. When magma was thrown up into the atmosphere, it cooled rapidly, becoming volcanic ash. The volcanic ash then fell, settled and accumulated in layers on these ancient seafloors, where it became compacted. Over time, the seawater seeped through the ash layers converting it into clay minerals. Today, from these aged sedimentary volcanic ash beds, Bentonite Clay is harvested from shallow pits on earth’s surface. Much like volcanic soil, bentonite clay can contain up to 75 naturally-occurring trace minerals including calcium, silica, magnesium, sodium, iron and potassium.
Our bentonite clay is harvested in Australia, is an Australian Certified Organic Input and is compliant with FSANZ food grade standards.
Bentonite Clay named after Fort Benton in Wyoming, USA, where many volcanoes are found, and may also be referred to as Montmorillonite Clay, for Montmorillon, France where it was first discovered.
Below are just three standout features of Bentonite Clay, that demonstrate how Bentonite Clay works.
- Bentonite clay carries a powerful negative charge, which seeks out and binds to positively charged bacteria, toxins, impurities, heavy metals and other unwanted microbes. This process is called adsorption.
- Bentonite clay is also absorptive, meaning it has an incredible swelling capacity. Like a sponge, it will expand to absorb these positively-charged bacteria, impurities and unwanted microbes into itself, effectively removing them from the surfaces it touches.
- Bentonite has an alkalising effect on skin and mouth, helping to balance pH and microbiome.

100% Certified Organic Bentonite Clay Powder.
Note: The Bentonite Clay we source is a Certified Organic Input for Organics and is compliant to Food Standards Australia & New Zealand. This product has been packaged for topical use by We Love Organics in New Zealand.
When creating a paste or poultice, always mix clay with clean, purified, filtered water. Do not use metal utensils as Bentonite Clay may bind to the metals which in turn may compromise the potency of the clay (e.g. it’s maximum adsorption potential). We recommend using our Bamboo Spoon and glass or ceramic bowls with our Bentonite Clay.
Seal lid after use. Store out of reach of children, pets and direct sunlight in a cool, dry, dark place.
Best used within 12 months of opening.

Bentonite Clay has a multitude of uses. Here are just some of the ways you can use our Bentonite Clay:
AS A TALCUM POWDER
Bentonite Clay can be used a natural talcum powder alternative to relieve nappy rash and heat rash. It can also be applied lightly with a clean make-up brush to clean, dry skin to help regulate sebum production and prevent bacterial build-up that causes acne, blemishes and oily skin.
Tips
- A little bentonite clay goes a long way, so you won’t need a lot.
- If using as a talcum powder, take a small amount of bentonite clay out of your main jar and put in a separate container for this purpose (perhaps a washed and reused spice shaker) to keep your mother jar fresh and hygienic.
AS A FACE MASK
Bentonite Clay is great for balancing sebum levels in the skin, drawing out impurities under the surface of the skin, and helping reduce acne and blemishes.
Use a little purified, filtered water to make a paste, apply to clean skin and leave for 10 minutes until mask has become firm, then wash off. Use as an exfoliating scrub as you wash off by gently rubbing clay particles in a circular motion.
You can also use it as a ‘spot paste’ wherever pimples arise on the body. Just be sure to clean the site first and wash off after about 10 minutes.
AS A CLAY POULTICE
Mix together 1/8 cup bentonite clay with 1/4 cup purified, filtered water.
Apply liberally to desired area and wrap a gauze around it to lock it in.
Let sit for 2-3 hours before removing, then wash off.
Repeat up to 3 times a day.
